‘Song of Swifts’

This oval art plate is a celebration of swifts! Every year they nest near my home and their arrival in May really heralds the start of spring for me. I love hearing them scream across the garden in the evening. They are the most incredible birds (don’t get me started as I will bore you to tears) but they are utterly fascinating and this plate is a celebration of that.

It depicts swifts soaring and singing a song of air and clouds, navigating by the stars and living on the wing. I love this piece and have been wanting to make it for years. I hope you like it too!

This piece is constructed in white earthenware with black slip and sgrafitto detailing and measures 28.5 cm x 24 cm x 5 cm deep.
